Registering a Vehicle

Newly-acquired vehicles must be registered within fifteen (15) days at the Secretary of State (SOS) Office. Vehicles transferred from another state shall be registered immediately after the owner establishes residency. Registration must be renewed once every 12-month period, and renewing can be accomplished online through ExpressSOS or in person at a participating SOS branch.

Odometer Disclosure Statement (Form BVDR-108) – Required in order to certify the accurate mileage on the vehicle.

Where to Register

In-person at a nearby Michigan Secretary of State (SOS) Office location. When purchasing from a private seller, the SOS recommends both the private seller and buyer visit the office together to sort out the transfer.
