A New Mexico vehicle/boat bill of sale is a legal document that proves the sale of a motor vehicle or boat occurred in the State of New Mexico. This form provides information about the seller, the buyer, and the vehicle or vessel. It is required for the registration process.

Registering a Vehicle
Vehicle owners have sixty (60) days from the date of purchase to register their vehicle. Renewal is required annually. Registration renewal is available online, by mail to the Registration Renewal Section of the Motor Vehicle Division, or in person at a Motor Vehicle Division field office.

New vehicle owners can register in-person at a Motor Vehicle Division field office.
Required Documents
- Bill of Sale;
- Odometer Disclosure Statement (Form MVD-10187);
- Certificate of Title (apply for a replacement title with Application Form MVD-10901);
- Valid driver’s license;
- Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin;
- New Mexico Motor Vehicle Power of Attorney is necessary if someone other than the vehicle owner registers it on their behalf;
- Registration Fees; and
- Proof of Insurance with Minimum Requirements:
- $25,000 for bodily injury to or death of one person;
- $50,000 for bodily injury to or death of two or more persons; and
- $10,000 for property damage in any one accident.
Registering a Boat
A boat or vessel must be registered with the state of New Mexico within thirty (30) days of purchase. Registration renewal is available in person at a Motor Vehicle Division field office.
