A Maine boat bill of sale is a document that acts as proof of a legal transaction between two (2) parties involving a watercraft in the State of Maine. The form prooves a change of ownership occurred. It is also required to register the boat with the state’s Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife. It contains information about the buyer, the seller, and the vessel that are necessary for registration.

Registering a Boat
Boat registrations are valid from January 1st through December 31st. Some boat registrations can be renewed online if the owner’s town is eligible. Alternatively, renewals can be processed in-person at a Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife office.

Owners can register their boats in-person at a Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife office.
Required Documents
- ATV, Boat and Resident Snowmobile Registration Application;
- Bill of Sale;
- Certificate of Title; and
- Registration Fees.
